Firefighters were battling a three-alarm blaze Thursday evening that spread from a single-family home to the Kids Choice Sport & Fun Center in Woodbridge.
There were no injuries, but three people were displaced when their home caught fire at about 3:54 p.m. on Thursday, according to Prince William County Assistant Fire Chief Matt Smolsky.
The home is located in the 1400 block of Devil’s Reach Road. The indoor sports center, which includes an indoor pool, playground and athletic fields, is directly behind the homes on Devil’s Reach Road. The sports center is bordered on the other side by the southbound lanes of Interstate 95.
The fire began on the exterior side of the home. Crews arrived on the scene and requested a second alarm because of the advancing fire. A third alarm was request shortly there after, Smolsky said in a news release.
Brush and other combustibles ignited and spread to the Kids Choice building, which was not heavily occupied at the time, Smolsky said.
Firefighting operations were still underway as of about 5:30 p.m. Thursday night. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Smolsky said.
