A fire broke out at a lot and burned down a trailer next to a log home business in Eagle Nest Thursday night (Feb. 13).
Firefighters from Moreno Valley, Eagle Nest, Angel Fire, Red River and Rio Fernando fire departments responded to the blaze beside Mammoth Mill & Log Home Co. around 7 p.m.
Moreno Valley Fire Chief Craig Sime said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. He said debris from the lot fed the blaze, allowing it to grow quickly.
“Behind the trailer is all the refuse from the sawmill,” Sime said. “All that is what you see and that’s what actually caught on fire. That’s what bled into the trailer, the single-wide that was right here. But as far as we know, we haven’t looked at a cause.”
The trailer that burned was unoccupied, he added. No one was injured during the incident.
Cris Brisbin, editor of the Enchanted Circle News, notified the Taos News of the fire Thursday evening. Speaking from the scene, she said bystanders were helping to contain the blaze by shoveling piles of dirt around its perimeter.

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the fire started at Mammoth Mill & Log Home Co. It started near the business. We regret the error.
