Loyal shoppers say have been left “scratching their heads” over the decision to close down the Ohio store on 1130 North Main Street in Miami Valley.

The Family Dollar branch officially put up closing signs on the doors a week ago with the official closing date now announced.

The signs have shocked many with the store being known as a busy and beloved shopping hotspot for years.

Riverdale Neighborhood Association spokesperson Victoria McNeal said she’s been left surprised by the store’s closure.

She said: “There’s people that come from over the bridge, River Commons, Five Oaks neighborhood, up Main Street.

“So it’s a heavily shopped store.”

The final day of sales will be Saturday, November 23, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Several customers told News Center 7 that they felt the store was perfectly fine after it was remodeled last year.

The owners also decided to revamp the parking lot outside, shoppers say.

McNeal added: “So we were scratching our heads, ‘Why remodel if you’re going to close?”

As shoppers begin to count down the days until the Family Dollar store officially shuts, several discounts and savings are already being offered.

An incredible 30 per cent closing down sale was announced for the Ohio branch last week.

Shoppers don’t have to travel far to reach their next closest store as there are a whopping 25 Family Dollar branches in Montgomery County.

Under ten minutes away sits the nearest store on 5607 N Dixie Drive.

In recent months the popular chain has announced thousands of closures due to financial struggles.

Family Dollar, which has approximately 8,000 locations across the country, has faced ongoing difficulties since its acquisition by Dollar Tree in 2015 for $8.5 billion.

The acquisition was intended to help Dollar Tree compete against larger rivals, but the integration has been rocky.

In May, Family Dollar shoppers in Buffalo, New York lost six stores at once.

Many residents in the area are considered low-income and have difficulty shopping at many of the higher-priced shops common in the area.

They said they were distraught by the closures and unsure of how they would now find affordable shopping in the future.

One of the latest stores to shut was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Alcohol and tobacco could be purchased with a 20 per cent discount in the final few weeks of business before the South Minnesota Avenue shop closed its doors for the final time in September.

At least 1,000 Family Dollar stores to close, CEO says

DOLLAR Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, revealed it would close around 1,000 stores in the coming years.

The company announced in March that it will shutter the stores after the discount retailer it acquired nearly a decade ago plummeted in value.

Dollar Tree plans to close about 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of this year.

This will be followed by the shuttering of 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores over the next several years.

The chain of discount variety stores has also indicated that sales are being affected by the cost-of-living crisis and inflation.

But USA Today added that Dollar Tree has also been rocked by reduced government benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

This has left families struggling to juggle finances, with as much as $250 less per month.
