LYTTON, B.C. – A new bridge located at Falls Creek, B.C. at the site of a washout due to flooding in November 2021 is nearly finished and will receive an Indigenous name to celebrate neighbouring communities in the Fraser Canyon.

The new bridge at Falls Creek was officially named CəX̣ ʷ Cixʷ (pronounced Check-Chow) Bridge on June 13. The bridge, located 20 kilometres south of Lytton on Highway 1, replaces a washed-out culvert.

Naming the new bridge involved local communities, including Kanaka Bar and Boothroyd, with support from the Nlaka’pamux Nation, a release said.

The new three-lane, climate-resilient bridge includes wildlife safety features and will be fully re-opened in time for the July long weekend, the release added.
