The third-party ROM scene is a shadow of its former self, but some bigger projects are still being maintained. One of these is Evolution X, and Android 15 builds are now available.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first ROM based on Google’s latest release. GrapheneOS was the first third-party ROM to launch an Android 15-based build, but unlike most other projects, Graphene is focused on removing much of Google’s bloat and adding more privacy-focused controls to supported hardware. It’s an acquired taste, but a great place to get more control over your on-device and personal data.
Conversely, Evolution X is designed to offer you more customization and it does that very well in our testing. After some issues over updates and regular builds, the Evolution X 10.x update has now been unveiled and, according to the quiet announcement post on the official Telegram channel, is expected to “roll out to more devices by next week.” The Evoultion X website has also been updated with a prominent explanation of the “Pixel-like feel” but with more “additional features” massaged into the recipe.
The current pool of devices includes the Pixel 6/6a, 7/7a, and 8/8a series, alongside some Xiaomi Poco and Redmi hardware. In total, builds are live for just 12 devices – most of which are from Google. However, this isn’t a bad effort, given that LineageOS has yet to offer Android 15 builds in an official capacity, which has been the basis for Evolution X since mid-2024.
If you’re confident in tweaking and have a supported handset, you can get started with Evolution X here.
