Google CEO Sundar Pichai had initially dialled US President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his big win
Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly joined a recent phone call between US President-elect Donald Trump and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
According to a report on The Information, when Sundar Pichai called Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the presidential race, Elon Musk was reportedly on the line.
Ahead of Election Day on November 5, Trump revealed he had spoken to Apple CEO Tim Cook about the financial penalties the European Union had imposed on the tech giant. “Two hours ago, three hours ago, he (Cook) called me,” Trump said during a conversation with podcaster Patrick Bet-David.
According to the report, Musk listened in while Pichai spoke to Trump. In recent months, Musk has been described as a constant presence by Trump’s side, often seen at the president-elect’s Florida home, with reports indicating that he rarely leaves.
Musk, who acquired X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, has also participated in calls with world leaders, offering advice on personnel choices both privately and publicly through the platform. Between his frequent meme posts featuring himself and Trump, Musk has embraced the title “First Buddy,” suggested for his role in Trump’s circle.
A Reuters report notes that Musk contributed at least $119 million to a pro-Trump political group, according to federal records. This move is part of a broader strategy to shield his companies from regulation and secure government support. Musk’s ventures—ranging from Tesla’s electric cars and Neuralink’s brain chips to SpaceX’s rockets—are all highly dependent on government policy, regulation, and subsidies.
Musk endorsed Trump on July 13, the day of a Pennsylvania assassination attempt on the candidate. He became a vocal supporter in the final days of Trump’s campaign and spent election night with him at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
