PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – A call for federal help in Plattsburgh as officials there grapple with aging infrastructure.

Parts of the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base were damaged by heavy rains in June.

Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman says repairs could cost up to $12 million.

He’s asking for funding through the infrastructure law to add permanent, ongoing funding for legacy former Air Force bases in the National Defense Authorization Act.

“My plan is to have some of these conversations down in D.C. because it is not just our federal partners we need to work with. If it’s a change in the defense bill, then we are going to need to work in coalition with other communities around the country, as well,” Cashman said.

Cashman says the town has spent roughly $6 million on infrastructure upgrades so far.
