  After losing 5 yards on first down because of a Saquon Barkley slip, Jalen Hurts turned the ball over via an INT to Xavier McKinney, who returned it inside the red zone on a third-and-long. McKinney signed a big free-agent deal with the Packers this offseason and it seems to be already paying dividends.

  Both Philadelphia and Green Bay are looking to bounce back and build after playoff losses in 2023

  The two clubs are entering this year with very different momentum coming off last year’s postseason runs. The Eagles, who were coming off a Super Bowl appearance, fumbled away a huge lead in the NFC East over the last six games of the regular season and got blown out by Tampa Bay in the wild-card round to end their season. Green Bay, meanwhile, rode a hot finish by quarterback Jordan Love into the playoffs and all the way to the divisional round where they lost a tight game to the eventual NFC champion 49ers.

  Yahoo Sports’ Frank Schwab dove into how both teams are entering the season, heading into the opener in Brazil.

  On the Eagles:

  “Philadelphia added running back Saquon Barkley in free agency. There was an explosive story from ESPN that detailed the strained relationship between Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts, which will get brought up many more times if the Eagles get off to a slow start.

  The Eagles’ roster is still championship worthy. But we’ll find out starting Friday if the stink of last season’s finish has worn off.”

  On the Packers:

  “The Packers finished last season very well and look better on paper this season.

  It’s all a mystery until the teams kick off in São Paulo, Brazil. There are always severe overreactions to anything that happens in Week 1, and given how the Packers and Eagles seasons flipped in November last season, both fan bases will spend all weekend overanalyzing whatever happens on Friday night.”

  After booing him for the start of his NFL career, Eagles fans will get used to cheering Saquon Barkley pretty quickly

  Six seasons. Two Pro Bowls. Three 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Saquon Barkely has been one ofe the best running backs in the league since he arrived out of Penn State in 2018, and after he and the Giants were unable to reach a deal, Barkley signed a three-year deal, worth $37.5 million for a chance to win a Super Bowl with an Eagles team that was perhaps the best in the league, with a 10-1 record through the first 11 games, before stumbling to an 11-6 record and a stunning playoff flameout in the Wild Card round, at Tampa Bay.

  Green isn’t usually on display at Corinthians Arena

  The Philadelphia Eagles are the designated home team for tonight’s game in Brazil, but they’ve chosen to wear white jerseys with black pants and black helmets. That’s, in part, because of the fact that Corinthians wears white over black for their home matches, but also because green is “unofficially” banned from the stadium. Corinthians’ top rival Palmieras wears green.

  Yahoo Sports’ Sean Leahy took a deep dive into the subject heading into the game.

  “When the NFL announced the teams would be going to São Paulo and playing at Neo Química Arena, there was talk that Corinthians would not allow either team to wear green for the game. Some believed it was due to the soccer rivalry, while others, like Packers running back Josh Jacobs, claimed it was gang-related.

  The league was quick to shoot down those rumors, saying the color ban that applies to the soccer club would not affect what the Packers and Eagles would wear.”
