SAGINAW TWP, MI – The new year started with changes to the Saginaw County business landscape as several retailers closed near the intersection of Bay and Tittabawassee roads and a few new businesses opened.
Here’s a look at some recent headlines you might have missed:
H&M leaves Saginaw’s Fashion Square, mall officials ask community to shop local
Clothing retailer H&M has closed its doors at Fashion Square Mall in Saginaw Township.
The store closed permanently on Saturday, Jan. 4. Mall officials announced the news via the Fashion Square Facebook page this week.
“Please let this be a reminder of the ever-changing retail landscape. While we’ll miss the style and convenience they brought to our community, this moment is also an opportunity to look forward and support the businesses that continue to call the mall home—and those that are yet to come. So they can provide us with what we are looking for: a mall that is filled with commUNITY, joy, fashion, food, fun and entertainment,“ the post reads in part.

Edible Arrangements closes near Bay and Tittabawassee in Saginaw, Party City to follow
Edible Arrangements closed near the intersection of Bay and Tittabawassee roads in Saginaw County’s Kochville Township, and another retailer associated with celebrations and parties is to follow.
A message to customers was posted on the Edible Arrangements (Saginaw, MI) Facebook page and on the storefront door at 2910 Tittabawassee Road.
“It is with a heavy heart that we are closing our store effective December 28th,” the sign on the door reads. “It has been our pleasure serving you for the last 18 years and we thank you for your patronage and support.”
Nearby, Party City, 2918 Tittabawassee Road, is going out of business with a store-closing sale underway. For Party City, the closure is not only local but companywide.
New Jersey-based Party City has more than 850 stores across the U.S., including 21 in Michigan.
Saginaw Dunham’s Sports closes
Dunham’s Sports is closing its only Saginaw County store.
The big-box sporting goods store is located at 4358 Bay Road in a plaza with Guitar Center and Best Buy. Signs posted on the door in early January indicate the store is closing soon.
“To our valued customers, the last day of business at this location will be Sunday, 1/12/25,” a sign reads.

New Qdoba now open on State Street in Saginaw Township
A new Qdoba Mexican Eats restaurant is now open on State Street in Saginaw Township.
The restaurant, which opened in late December at 5775 State St., is located near Verizon, Biggby Coffee and a new Pizza Hut.
The State Street Qdoba is the second in Saginaw County. The other restaurant is located at 5165 Bay Road in Kochville Township.
Hemlock Semiconductor marks ‘key milestone’ toward enhanced manufacturing capabilities in Saginaw County
Hemlock Semiconductor is another step closer to enhancing its manufacturing capabilities in Saginaw County thanks to $325 million in newly secured CHIPS Act funding.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded Thomas Township-based Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) up to $325 million in direct funding under the CHIPS Incentives Program’s Funding Opportunity for Commercial Fabrication facilities, according to a news release issued Tuesday, Jan. 7. A preliminary agreement was announced last fall.
This award will support the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Saginaw County, creating approximately 180 manufacturing jobs and more than 1,000 construction jobs, the U.S. Department of Commerce news release states.
What’s that? New trampoline park celebrating grand opening after the holidays
A new trampoline park recently opened near the intersection of Bay and Tittabawassee roads, and a grand opening celebration is planned after the holidays.
Urban Air Adventure Park is located at 3177 W. Bay Drive, in a plaza with Burlington and Dollar Tree.

These 10 small mid-Michigan businesses just received nearly $200K in grants
Officials with the Great Lakes Bay Business Hub have announced the recipients of nearly $200,000 in direct grants to small businesses, and the application for the next round of grants is now open.
“After receiving over 29 competitive applications, ten small businesses have been awarded a total of $194,688.03 in funding,” reads a the Central Michigan University Research Corp. (CMURC) news release.
“This collaborative initiative, involving the Small Business Development Center, regional chambers of commerce, community and economic development organizations, and entrepreneurial service providers, are now accepting applications for the next round of grants, with a deadline of May 13.”
