Driver, 70, loses control, slams into supermarket, other Staten Island stores: NYPD

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A vehicle struck multiple businesses within the Manor Road Shopping Center in Castleton Corners Friday afternoon.

The NYPD told the Advance/SILive.com a 70-year-old female was operating a blue sedan when she “lost control” and collided with several commercial establishments at around 2:33 p.m. at 754 Manor Rd.

The driver was subsequently transported to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition, according to an NYPD spokesman. No other injuries were reported.

No criminality is suspected, the spokesman added.

Emergency responders on the scene blocked numerous entrances into the shopping plaza, as passersby gathered to catch a glimpse of the aftermath.

The SuperFresh grocery store within the shopping plaza appeared to have significant damage to its entrance. Shattered glass and debris from a brick wall littered the store’s entrance, which was restricted by law enforcement.

Just a few feet from the disfigured façade sat a damaged Hyundai. The front of the car was showered with glass shards and the bumper was missing. Additionally, the driver’s side door was seen leaning up against bollards lining the sidewalk in front of the store’s entrance.

Todt Hill Wine and Liquors was taped off to the public; the business’ exterior displaying considerable signs of damage as well.

On the opposite side of the parking lot, a wall for a Chase Bank was dented in, exposing what appeared to be cinderblocks.
