PERRYSBURG — Doug Carmell, 86, of Perrysburg, passed away at home on Tuesday evening, July 23, 2024, surrounded by family.

Born in Lodi , N.Y., October 25, 1937, one of 6 siblings born to Leonard and Marian (Neal) Carmell.

Doug married the former Barbara J. Simmons in Leesburg, Virginia.

A Supervisor at the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center Doug retired after 37 yrs, at the time of his retirement he was a Motor Equipment Supervisor “2” for the State .

Doug was a past member with the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 409 and the Moose Lodge 1382 both of Gowanda. He enjoyed working on cars especially his 1955 Thunderbird ( a distinct vehicle that people were familiar with and certainly one family and friends would know was Doug’s ), he loved to golf , frequenting car shows and keeping a manicured lawn and gardens when his health permitted . Doug along with Barb had a soft spot for rescued animals , rescuing many throughout the years , whether it be a shelter dog or a stray cat . These animals found their forever home and hit the lottery having Doug and Barb as parents.

Doug is survived by his wife; Barbara J. (Simmons) Carmell of 67 years. Children; Donald (Debbie) Davis of Perrysburg, Danny(Michelle) Davis of Gowanda, Kean (Lynne) Carmell of Inverness , Fla., Sandra Davis of Collins and Karen Maziar of Dunkirk. Doug was Boompa to; Amy (Mike) Laurito, Karly (Craig) Sutton, Brett(Jennifer) Davis, Lindsey(Eric)Volk, Brenda (Daryl Britt)Clabeaux, Steve Clabeaux, Scott (Sarah) Davis, Jessica (Jared) Yonkers, Taryn Lau, Brandon (Shannon) Davis, Kristen (Matthew) Brady, Dylan (Genna) Chmiel, Ryli (Jon) Chmiel and Kelly (Nick) VanNote. 21 great grandchildren along with three great great grandchildren also survive along with his siblings ; Carl“Jr.”(Cora)Carmell of San Antone, Fla., Joan(Ron)Welch of Interlaken, NY and Deborah(Bill)Brinkerhoff of Lodi,NY. Nieces , nephews and great nieces and nephews survive.

Besides his parents , Doug was preceded in death by a daughter Lorrie Chmiel who passed away October 24, 2016, a sister Nancy Orth who passed May 21,2021 and a brother Robert Carmell.

A Celebration of Life for Doug will be held SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 AT THE CARMELL FAMILY RESIDENCE 11293 RTE. 39 @ 1:00PM.
