Hi, my name is Paz. I’m a New York City based DJ and I love making people happy through music today. I’m going head to head with Google A I on music and D jing. Now we’re gonna play around with Google’s Music FX from their test kitchen and we’re gonna see what it comes up with. So I’m gonna ask it to create a disco song. That’s 100 and 22 B PM with 2024 style tech house face and piano. All right. That’s not exactly what I was looking for. That’s pretty cool. All right. Let’s try something different this time. Seventies funk and soul song at 100 and eight B PM. Bass guitar and smooth synth. Let’s give this a shot. This is really, really cool. This isn’t exactly what I was looking for, but I don’t think it’s the fault of music. FX. I think it’s really more that I need to be more descriptive in what I’m asking for it. Let’s do one last 1, 20 ten’s hip hop trap song. 74 B PM. Big Thunderous Drums. I don’t know. Yes, this is what I asked for music. FX. I I just didn’t like where it went. All right. Let’s see if we add something, add side chain snares. Let’s see if that makes it more dynamic. This is pretty cool. It’ll actually build off of what it’s already done. So it says optimizing this is better. I think music X is remarkable. I think it actually gave me exactly what I asked it to. If I was a musician or a producer. I think I would have a far just a larger library of things to be able to say, hey, this, this is what I want. This is what I want. If I was more detailed in my prompting, I would be very excited to see what this would come back with. All right, we’re gonna switch over to the DJ mode. I’m not exactly sure what this one is, but let’s find out. Let’s go. Bila funk, big bass, let’s give it upbeat. Big bass should be there. Yeah. Bila funk. I’d really like it to be a bila funk track. All right. And yeah, it should be upbeat. Actually. Let’s add a steel drum in here. Let’s see what happens. OK. Because it feels like music. Not really that impressed. Music is basically generic music that is put together to sound and feel like music that you might know, but it’s generally royalty free. Let’s give it another shot. OK. This one’s better, let’s move these sliders around, see if it changes what we’re doing and let’s see if we can do it while it’s live. It’s interesting. But I do think it’s limited by the structure of really, of music to be frank. I don’t think a lot of it can change too much and maybe it’s very nuanced and also, maybe it’s also because I don’t really like what it gave me. So I was expecting more dramatic changes from these sliders, but the nuance is good. I could see if you can figure out how to prompt it in a way that it understands that this could be really, really cool to have really simple sliders to change these small parameters. Now, let’s hear what Google Gemini has to say about it. If it says something great, I’m gonna give it a point. If it says something bad, I’m gonna take a point away. DJ S can be excited about A IA I won’t replace them but rather be a powerful tool. A I is gonna replace a lot of really bad DJ s. If you’re just playing the same playlist off of like a Spotify top 50 I think A I can probably do it just as good as you probably for a fraction of your cost. Imagine software that analyzes music to suggest perfect transitions or reads the crowd to pick the next high energy track. This frees up DJ s to focus on creativity like remixing on the fly or interacting with the crowd. A I can be the secret weapon that takes their sets to the next level. This is true. If this is a big, if, if it can work on edge computing local language models, the key here to be a real asset to DJ s and further creativity will be to suggest songs from my library. I’m less interested in hearing suggestions of the billions of songs or the songs that every single person is playing. I would like it more tuned to my tastes and what I do as a DJ in or in order to actually help me in five words or less. What makes a stellar DJ? Stellar DJ is one that leaves the dance floor. Happy crowd. Plus music plus magic. I like that. What is the hardest part of being a DJ connecting with your audience reading the room? What is the most important piece of gear for a DJ to have always having the right music ears to the crowd? What are the highest paying DJ gigs? 360 DJ s who write, produce and throw their own concerts big way su fei so equal sign big festivals. I don’t know what half of that means. So you’re getting one off on that one. What are the lowest paying DJ gigs ones where people DJ for free, stop doing that free bar plus exposure. Yeah. What is the best song to play at a wedding? It really depends on who the crowd is. Um play levels by Avici. It’ll be OK. Depends on the couple worst song to play at a wedding. Any song that clears your dance floor is probably not one. You should be playing breakup anthem. Yeah, I guess, I guess Gemini has some humor too. All right, cool. Why should djs Embrace a I Streamline workflow so you can get back to playing more music, tools for the groove. That doesn’t make any sense. Why should djs be worried about A I? If you’re a bad DJ, it’s gonna take your job, not vibes just bites. Yeah, we’ve got work to do. What’s the biggest mistake A DJ can make during a set not recovering from a perceived error. Ignore the dance floor. True. What’s the best praise A DJ can receive? I don’t know about Gemini but I love getting a hug lost in the music. I don’t know what that means either. Music FX, what a super, super cool tool, really breathtaking and amazing to see what it has been able to do and how fast and how easy it is to use. It’s so accessible. If there was a fa Q or a instruction manual, I have a feeling that a lot of us would be able to pick this up really, really quickly. I think it’s a really fun tool, but I don’t really see how it impacts the current DJ workflow. It seems to be more of a tool designed to quickly create music for almost anything but D jing unless you are creating original production through this. And then at that point, I think it’s still tailored more for musicians. I would be really excited if this was built upon in a way that would enhance DJ workflows. Uh It would be really cool such as creating intros for songs. If you need to help remix a current song, if it can do the sem separation and help you create or remix that song further. I think every creative is worried about how A I will impact their livelihoods. But I think A I can be a great thing as far as music organization and music discovery for DJ S. It really just saves you a ton of time googling. I think from the production side, there’s gonna be a lot of efficiencies that happen. But right now I still love live music.
