Eight local softball players were honored Wednesday by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports as representatives on all-state teams.

Fredonia senior Jordan Lucas and Hillbillies junior teammate Danielle Palisin were recognized in Class B.

Lucas, named to the First Team, was Fredonia’s ace this season, pitching to a 0.41 earned run average in 120 innings. In the circle, the right-hander struck out 248 while allowing just 11 runs (seven earned), 30 hits and 36 walks. At the plate, Lucas hit .333 with five doubles and two home runs to go along with 13 runs scored.

Palisin, named to the Fourth Team, hit .382 with five doubles and a triple to go along with 24 runs scored and two stolen bases.

Gowanda sophomore Addison Kota, Chautauqua Lake junior Cayzlee Johnson, Westfield junior Eva Gnadzinski and Wolverines senior Tanleigh Bestine were named to Class C teams.

Kota, named to the First Team, hit .767 with 10 doubles, four triples and six home runs to go along with 40 RBIs and 34 runs scored for the Panthers. In the circle, the right-hander struck out 111 in 88 innings with a 1.83 ERA and held opposing batters to a .197 average.

Johnson, named to the Second Team, hit .531 with 14 doubles, three triples and a home run to go along with 16 RBIs and 26 runs scored. In the circle, the right-hander struck out 137 in 96 innings with a 0.80 ERA for the Eagles.

Gnadzinski, also named to the Second Team, went 16-5 with a 2.62 ERA while striking out 68 in 79 1/3 innings and holding opposing batters to a .184 average. At the plate, she hit .380 with 12 doubles, a triple and three home runs to go along with 20 RBIs and 13 runs scored for the Wolverines.

Bestine, named to the Third Team, hit .417 with four doubles, five triples and a home run to go along with 21 RBIs, 29 runs scored for the Wolverines.

Clymer/Sherman junior Janelle Burchanowski and Ellicottville sophomore Ande Northrup were named to Class D teams.

Burchanowski, named to the Second Team, hit .556 with seven doubles, two triples and two home runs to go along with 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored for the Wolves.

Northrup, named to the Third Team, hit .589 with five doubles and a home run to go along with 33 runs scored for the Eagles.

Wellsville senior pitcher Makenzie Cowburn, who beat Fredonia in the Class B Far West Regional, was named the Class B Player of the Year, while Wellsville’s Jaime McLaughlin and Shelley Chaffee were named the co-Coaches of the Year after the Lions won the state title.

Other Section VI girls recognized in Class B included Depew senior Mia Vannelli (First Team, catcher), East Aurora senior Alyssa Kingston (Second Team, pitcher), Alden junior Lilly Bromstead (Third Team, pitcher/shortstop), Akron senior Ashlee Henning (Fourth Team, catcher) and Alden senior Sylvia White (Fourth Team, shortstop).

Berne-Knox-Westerlo senior pitcher Sara Macrina was named the Player of the Year in Class C and Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Jeff Muller was named the Coach of the Year after the Bulldogs won the Class C title.

Lancaster-St. Mary’s junior third baseman Lauren Payne and junior pitcher Ella Dovey were named to the First Team, while teammate Natalie Cully, a junior pitcher/infielder, was named to the Third Team in Class C.

Deposit-Hancock junior pitcher Addison Makowski was named the Player of the Year in Class D and Deposit-Hancock’s Dan Briggs was named the Coach of the Year after the Eagles won the state title.

In Class AAA, St. Anthony’s senior pitcher Milana Fiordalisi was named the Player of the Year, while Corning’s Mike Johnston and St. Anthony’s Mike Massa shared Coach of the Year honors.

Orchard Park junior pitcher Ava Farina was named to the First Team, Orchard Park junior shortstop Evelyn Wozniak was named to the Second Team and Lancaster senior first baseman/third baseman Frankie Morris was named to the Fifth Team.

Clarence senior pitcher Ella Harrison was named the Player of the Year in Class AA and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Caitlyn Rana was named the Coach of the Year.

Clarence senior first baseman Ella Zobel joined Harrison on the First Team, Niagara-Wheatfield sophomore utility player Lindsay Tylec and Frontier senior third baseman/pitcher Cassidy Weller were named to the Second Team, Frontier senior pitcher Jill Locher was named to the Fourth Team, and Niagara-Wheatfield junior pitcher Gianna Graber, Williamsville East senior pitcher Grace Kessel and West Seneca West senior center fielder Mikayla Hussar were named to the Fifth Team.

Nardin senior pitcher Erin Nuwer was named the Player of the Year in Class A and Marlboro’s Andrea Schoonmaker was named the Coach of the Year.

Williamsville South junior pitcher Alyssa Budzinski joined Nuwer on the First Team, Williamsville South junior second baseman Oliviah Sackel was named to the Second Team, Starpoint senior shortstop Emilie Pasqual and Iroquois senior pitcher Alexa Chairamonte were named to the Third Team, and Grand Island junior pitcher Natalie Kopf and Iroquois sophomore center fielder Emma Beyer were named to the Fourth Team.
