Toast messages are quite common in Android apps, and you’ll now see them in desktop Google Chrome.
When copying a URL from the body of a website, Google Chrome now shows a centered, pill-shaped overlay at the top of your screen. Featuring a matching icon, “Link copied” message, and light blue background, it partially obscures the address or bookmarks bar. We’re also seeing it for “Image copied,” but not when just copying text.
Chrome’s toast message disappears automatically after 5+ seconds. Overall, it’s not visually disruptive given the big window and how busy modern webpages are, while it’s less overt than the Android equivalent.
Overall, these confirmations are a user-friendly change that the Chrome team presumably found was helpful to people. That said, in the case of copying text, it’s apparently if you actually didn’t complete the action when you later go to paste.
We’re seeing these toast messages with Chrome 130 for desktop (Mac). I’m currently not seeing it in ChromeOS.
