China has again ready to give a neck-to-neck challenge to the United States of America but in a different domain. Its AI research firm DeepSeek unveiling the first generation large language model ‘DeepSeek-R1-Zero’ is a direct challenge to overcome the US’s hegemony in the generative artificial intelligence domain with ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Bing and others.

Chinese counterpart of ChatGPT, DeepSeek is at the early stage although, but showing potential to outbeat or at least tough competition in various domains like reasoning.

What is DeepSeek-R1-Zero LLM?

According to DeepSeek-AI, DeepSeek-R1-Zero, a model trained via large-scale reinforcement learning (RL) without supervised fine-tuning (SFT) as a preliminary step, demonstrates remarkable reasoning capabilities. Through RL, DeepSeek-R1-Zero naturally emerges with numerous powerful and intriguing reasoning behaviors.

It said that the model faces challenges in poor readability and language mixing.
