DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Darlington County was awarded a $8.2 million grant on Friday, according to a release from the county.
Officials said the Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation Infrastructure (CDBG-MIT) grant will be used for street drainage improvements in the area of Chestnut Street.

The South Carolina Office of Resilience’s (SCOR) Mitigation Dept. awarded the grant to the county.
Officials said since 2022, Darlington County has been working with SCOR on a watershed study.

The county was then awarded the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Black Grant-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) Program to provide for shovel-ready engineered plans in multiple locations around Darlington County.
According to officials, those shovel-ready plans were submitted for available grant funding and the Chestnut Street project was the one selected.
