At the Jan. 27 Cuyahoga Falls City Council meeting, Finance Director Bryan Hoffman reported that the city ended 2024 with a record $25.5 million balance.

Income tax revenues rose by 5.1% compared to 2023, and the city maintained a $1.86 million balance for construction and maintenance expenses, allowing flexibility for road salt purchases.

Revenue from both The Natatorium and Water Works Family Aquatic Center increased, while the city’s self-insurance fund incurred $8.3 million in expenses due to rising hospitalization and prescription drug costs.

The 2025 city budget, approved by council in December, projects nearly $269 million in total expenditures. The $6.7 million RiverLoop Project, slated to begin in May and be completed by year-end, aims to revitalize the downtown area with enhanced amenities and accessibility.

The project will include rebuilding the lower boardwalk and adding a new upper loop that will connect with Front Street at Broad Boulevard and Oakwood Drive.

Infrastructure is a key focus of the 2025 budget, with an additional $1 million allocated for street paving, bringing total asphalt repair funding to $4 million and concrete street repairs to $600,000.

Flock camera use will continue in Cuyahoga Falls

Council also authorized the city to renew its contract with Flock Group, Inc. In 2023, the city purchased 26 Flock cameras for intersections across the city.

The cameras capture video and have advanced license plate reader technology — Flock will continue to provide and maintain traffic cameras at these intersections.

Flock cameras are used in several Northeast Ohio communities, including Akron, Cleveland, Coventry, Solon and Twinsburg.
