Culinary Co-Op, Golden Chick highlighted in Lubbock business news

Must read

Hello A-J readers!

A new chicken restaurant and a feature on a business that recently started an afterschool cooking program are among this week’s Lubbock business highlights.

Golden Chick, which started in Texas in 1967, returned to Lubbock on Monday. This time, the first of two planned locations opened inside Walmart, 6315 82nd St. A second, freestanding location is expected to open in late 2025, though a location had not been confirmed as of this week.

We also learned about a unique business – The Culinary Co-Op, 5044 Frankford Ave., #900. Owner Sherry Bolton talked about how she wanted to create a space that allowed for exploration, growth and community. Bolton does this by allowing people to rent kitchen space, host cooking classes, and just started an afterschool cooking program with three Lubbock ISD schools.

“A lot of people can’t afford that upfront cost for a brick-and-mortar store or kitchen, so a lot of them usually just work out of their house,” said Sherry Bolton Clark, owner. “I wanted to develop something of a safe space for people to come and express their culinary vision here, so that’s what I did.”

Going into next week, I hope to have information on a locally-made unique snack and a recap on all the businesses that opened, closed or announced throughout January. As of this week, there’s been less than January 2023 and 2024, but we still have a week for things to change.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
