LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Congressman Henry Cuellar announced $20M in federal funding for critical water infrastructure in Laredo.
The event took place in the City Hall chambers this morning, January 31. Laredo City Manager Joe Neeb stated that his funding will be crucial for repairing the city’s old water lines.
Noting, “We’re gonna utilize these dollars to help offset or complement our dollars. We’re gonna start replacing the lines that have caused us the most problems. We have the robots coming in.“
Water Quality Assurance Superintendent, Sheila Serna, mentioned that the money will allow the purchase of special technology to aid the Utilities Department in identifying faulty pipes. “We purchased a robot, which is going to essentially be placed in the line, and it’s gonna go up and down the line. It’ll tell us what needs to be replaced or not.”
Additionally, city officials encourage citizens to report any suspicious activity regarding illegal water connections around their neighborhoods to 311.
