The new Costco store in Covington isn’t set to open until Aug. 28. But you can idle up to the gas pumps starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to store manager David Hernandez.
The $46 million, 159,000-square-foot store sits on 12 acres at the Nord du Lac shopping center on Pinnacle Parkway off Interstate 12. It’s the first northshore location for the Washington-based retail giant.
Costco also operates a store in New Orleans.
The Covington store is expected to hire up to 200 people and generate some $60 million in property and sales taxes over the next decade, according to St. Tammany Corporation, the parish’s economic development agency.
The Costco at Nord du Lac is in a busy commercial stretch of I-12. The shopping center also includes Kohl’s and Academy Sports, as well as several restaurants.
It sits across I-12 from the bustling River Chase shopping area that includes Sam’s Club, Rooms to Go, JC Penny and a number of other stores, restaurants and office space.
