Mexico can only advance to the quarterfinals with a win tonight over Ecuador. A tie or a loss would eliminate El Tri from moving on. If Mexico and Ecuador ends in a draw, they would each have four points, but Ecuador would hold the tie breaker with better goal difference.
Mexico winning would guarantee a spot in the knockout stage, but its next opponent would be determined by the outcome of the other Group B match between Venezuela and Jamaica. Venezuela, with six points in hand, has clinched a spot in the knockout round. Jamaica, already eliminated and playing mostly for pride, could make things interesting with a big win and knock Venezuela into second place.
The team that finishes in first place in Group B will face Canada, but the second place team will go up against mighty Argentina, the reigning World Cup and Copa América champions.
