(WPBN/WGTU) — The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Consumers Energy to receive nearly $20 million in financial assistance to help integrate electric vehicles into Michigan’s grid.
The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships program.
The program supports the modernization of the U.S.’ electric grid.
Consumers Energy will match the nearly $20 million received, so some $40 million will be used to add AI powered modules to 18,000 electric meters that are used by EV owners.
These modules will provide real-time data and predictions to better understand the impact EVs have on the grid.
