New EV Chargers

Montpelier has four new Flo electric vehicle charging stations going into the parking area behind The Drawing Board, just off Main Street. Charging a vehicle with a 100-k battery with the 500-kw high-speed charging stations could take as little as 20 minutes, according to Scotte Millette of Next Level Electric, who is installing them. Millette said he also installed the 50-kw charging station at the EastRise Credit Union (formerly VSECU) and the Flo charging unit in the Berlin transit center near Applebee’s. He said the new Flo units should be ready for use in a week or two. The charging stations are owned by Green Mountain Power, and the city of Montpelier is hosting them.

Write Now!

Looking for motivation to keep writing? Every Saturday Kellogg-Hubbard Library hosts a writer’s group in the Hayes Room from 10 to 11:30 a.m. — no prompts, no unsolicited feedback, all genres/experience levels welcome. You can write a letter to a friend, work on your code, or get some words on the page for your first novel; every session opens with short introductions and closes with a round table where all those in attendance can share how writing went for them that day.

You can RSVP for the next meeting at Meetup.com by searching “Shut Up and Write! Montpelier.” An RSVP is not required, but always appreciated. Come late, leave early, meet fellow writers, and help build community. Being with other writers is COOL!

Winter Market Seeks Vendors

The Northfield Farmers Market is accepting vendor applications for Vermont’s only 100% online winter market, with a new location at Carrier Roasting Co. Carrier will host product drop-off, order assembly, and customer pick-up at its 17 East Street coffee shop in Northfield.

The market seeks growers, cheese makers, food producers, bakers, cooks, artists, crafters, and other purveyors of Vermont-made products. Instead of spending hours setting up, vending, and tearing down during a Vermont winter, vendors can drop off the products that have been ordered online, and receive direct electronic payments each week.

Applications are due Dec. 1, with a discount for those submitted by Nov. 1. Visit northfieldfm.eatfromfarms.com for more information, or contact northfieldfarmersmarketvt@gmail.com, or 802-485-8586.

Vermont Writers’ Prize

Entries are open for the 35th annual 2025 Vermont Writers’ Prize, awarded each year in both prose and poetry. The prize is open to Vermont residents, and poems, short stories, essays, or plays should explore Vermont, its people, places, values, or history.

“Vermont is always changing, and it is so inspiring to read the entries and see how writers express the Vermont experience,” said Kristin Carlson, a Green Mountain Power vice president who serves as a judge for this prize.
