Collin Schlee injury: Virginia Tech QB leaves game after hard hit

Must read

The Virginia Tech Hokies are in a battle with the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night. Starting quarterback Kyron Drones was not dressed at all on the sidelines due to an injury. And VT had backup quarterback Collin Schlee in the game. But he was knocked out of the game and was immediately sent to the medical tent, after he took a big hit from a Duke defender. The Hokies inserted third string quarterback William Watson III, better known as “Pop” according to the ACC Network broadcast, into the game.

The good news for the Hokies is that running back Bhayshul Tuten is playing on Saturday night. He’s been banged up recently. In the second quarter, ACC Network sideline reporter Dana Boyle updated Collin Schlee’s status. “Collin Schlee is still in the medical tent. Team doctor Mark Rogers has been in and out reviewing in-game video of the hit to Collin Schlee in the second quarter. He remains in the tent. We hope he’s okay,” Boyle explained.

Late in the second quarter, Schlee was seen heading to the locker room with a Virginia Tech trainer. He had a coat over his head. It appears as though his day is done, and Pop Watson will be the quarterback for the Hokies for the rest of Saturday night.

William Watson III, also known as Pop, played his high school football for Springfield Central (Springfield, Massachusetts). He was rated as the No. 814 overall prospect in the country and the No. 44 quarterback prospect in America, according to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2023 cycle.

Virginia Tech will prepare for the Battle for the Commonwealth Cup against Virginia next Saturday. That one will be in Blacksburg, Virginia in Lane Stadium. The game will be televised on ACC Network and kick is set for 8:00 PM EST.
