Coffee hours, tree lighting & Candlelight Shopping: Six things to know in Glocester this week – NRI NOW

Coffee hours

Town officials will host drop-in style coffee hours today, Tuesday, Dec. 3 with information about the Chepachet Village Septic Improvement Program. Attendees will have the chance to hear more about the program in an informal setting, ask questions or file a statement of interest form. Coffee hours will be held in Room 6 at Glocester Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Book talk

Debbie Tillinghast “Over the Garden Wall, Finding Moments that Matter,” At a book talk at the Harmony Library on Wednesday, Dec. 4, she will share what inspired her to write the latest, and read excerpts highlighting her connection to moments that matter. The presentation starts at 6:30 p.m., and refreshments will be served after the talk. Signed copies of the book will be available.

Guests are asked to register for the program in advance at www.glocesterlibraries.org  so enough refreshments are available.

Tree lighting

The town’s annual tree lighting ceremony will take place at the Kent Field Pavilion at () on Thursday, Dec. 5, with one very merry guest to light the tree at 6 p.m. The festive event will feature music, hot chocolate, seasonal treats and free ornament crafts starting at 5:30 p.m.

Candlelight shopping

After the tree lighting Thursday evening, stroll the streets of Chepachet Village for the first Candlelight Shopping event of the season from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy a bit of “Yankee hospitality,” with local shops decorated for the season and streets lit with antique street lights. The sounds of holiday music will add to the old fashioned ambiance creating an old-fashioned holiday shopping experience with dining and entertainment for locals and out-of-town visitors.

There will be carolers, witch dancers, music and more at the events, which will continue on Thursdays for the next two weeks.

Grange bazaar

Chepachet Grange #38 will host an old fashioned Christmas bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 28 Chopmist Hill Road. The event will feature raffles, free photos with Santa, a snack bar, vendors and gifts.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 3 starting at 6 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here. The meeting will be followed by a gathering of the regional School Committee starting at 7 p.m. for an agenda found here.
