A Co Tyrone man arrested in Dubai over a negative Google review of a former employer is on his way home.

Craig Ballentine (33) from Cookstown told The Irish News on Thursday that his “travel ban was lifted today”.

He added that he was on a plane back to Northern Ireland.

Mr Ballentine was arrested in October in the UAE after allegedly posting a non-abusive review of the dog groomers he once worked at.

The care worker was released from custody, but was told he could not leave the UAE until the case against him was resolved.

Just last week, he told The Irish News of how he had been denied his chance to return home for Christmas.

He said he had been given a fine and was told he must wait until at least February 25 for his next court date.

But he told of his joy on Thursday that he was finally able to return home.

“Just to let you know I’m on the plane,” he said.

“Travel ban lifted today. It has been a manic week.”

It has been reported he may have to return to Dubai at the end of January for a further court hearing.

But speaking to the BBC before his flight was due to leave Dubai, Mr Ballentine said: “Reality hasn’t really kicked in yet.

“Once I return back and I see Dublin outside the plane window that’s when I will be relieved.

“It has been an exhausting journey for both myself, family and friends.

“It’s coming up to Christmas so now I hope to return and rest for a day or two then get prepared to enjoy the festivities.”
