MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (WNEM) – Central Michigan University (CMU) College of Medicine has been ranked in the 2024 best graduate schools for medicine by U.S. News and World Report.
CMU said out of about 160 ranked medical schools, its medical school ranked in the following three categories that identify with its mission:
- Serving rural areasĀ – #43
- Most graduates practicing in health professional shortage areas – #67
- Most graduates in primary care – #52
āThis recognition is a testament to the caliber of CMUās medical education programs and its graduates,ā said Dr. George Kikano, dean of the College of Medicine and executive vice president for health affairs.
CMUās College of Medicine was founded in 2010 with the mission to tackle the growing shortage of primary care physicians in the state and across the country.
āThis is an outstanding achievement for our college, our faculty and staff, and our learners,ā Kikano said. āWe see the numbers and we know weāre making a difference, but being recognized nationally brings another level of confirmation that our impact is substantial.ā
According to CMU, nearly 8,000 prospective students apply to CMUās College of Medicine every year and sustains 75 to 80% of enrollment of applicants in Michigan.
CMU said 60 to 75% of graduates choose to practice primary care and nearly half of each class continue residency training in Michigan.
