CMA CGM, Google partner to accelerate AI in shipping

CMA CGM and Google have formed a strategic cooperation to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) across the company’s global operations.

CMA CGM will assist its workers make better decisions by utilising Google’s proven AI technologies and expert insights.

According to CMA CGM, every programme and tool created under the alliance will be tailored to help users make decisions across a variety of essential workflows.

This comprehensive partnership seeks to transform shipping by increasing efficiency, reactivity, and adaptation to market swings and disruptions, resulting in faster and more responsive customer service.

As part of the agreement, CMA CGM will actively attempt to optimise vessel routes, container handling, and inventory management to ensure efficient and timely delivery of commodities while reducing costs and carbon footprints.

CEVA Logistics, CMA CGM’s logistics business, will lead the data-driven future of logistics by concentrating on warehouse smart management to optimise operations over 10.3 million square metres.

The smart management solution, built on Google technology, will enable CEVA Logistics to better predict and plan its operations by improving volume and demand forecasts.

Furthermore, the collaboration will extend to CMA Media, giving CMA an advantage in the media market.

Google’s AI experience in this space will support CMA Media journalists in developing crucial tools for their day-to-day work, such as document synthesis and translation, producing media snippets for social networks, and digitising and referencing archives from articles, images, or videos.

This collaboration is part of CMA CGM’s broader aim to modernise its company through AI innovation. It follows important investments by CMA CGM in Mistral AI, PoolSide, and Dataiku, as well as the development of Kyutai, an open scientific lab.
