Clemson’s starting quarterback Cade Klubnik is having a nice season for the 7-2 Tigers. As a result, he’s been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Maxwell Award which is annually awarded to college player of the year.
This year, the junior from Austin, Texas has thrown for 2,275 yards with 24 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. He’s completing 63.1% of his passes.
Two other ACC players, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton are also among the group of 16 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
This week, the Clemson baseball team released its full 2025 schedule. This will be the 128th season for the Tigers who begin play at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, Texas from Feb. 14-16.
Clemson’s home opener is against Presbyterian at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. Not long after that, on February 28 – March 2, the Tigers will take on South Carolina in a series where one game will be played at Clemson, one game at a neutral site, and one game at South Carolina.
The Tigers will also have intriguing home series against Notre Dame (March 14-16), Wake Forest (March 21-23), and Duke (May 9-11). In all, the Tigers will host five ACC series this season.
Last season, the Tigers wer 44-16 overall and 20-10 in ACC play. Reaching the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Florida, they came up just one step short of the College World Series. Now, we know what their regular-season road back to the postseason will look like.
Saturday against Virginia Tech, Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown got his first career start. In that game, the true freshman came up with eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack to help his team pick up a much-needed road win.
As a result, the Maxwell Football Club announced this week that Brown has been named theShaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week.
Brown was a huge component of a defense that held the Hokies to just 40 yards rushing and just 1.9 yards per carry. Of course, that was a welcome sight after the Tiger defense was gashed at home on the ground by Louisville the week prior.
Playing in front of over 8,000 fans for the program’s annual Education Day game, the Clemson women’s basketball team trounced Presbyterian College 81-33 on Monday. The win moved the Tigers to 3-0 on the season.
In the highest-attended Clemson women’s basketball game since 1990, the Tigers were led by 20 points from Loyal McQueen who was 7-11 from the field. It was the second-straight win by over 30 points for Clemson.
After giving up the first bucket of the game, Clemson would take the lead with a 3-pointer and the Tigers would never trail again. By halftime, they were up 41 points and the blowout was in full effect.
Next, the Tigers remain at home for another installment of the Palmetto Series matchup against South Carolina on Wednesday, November 20. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. in Littlejohn Coliseum.
