JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The city of Jonesboro will receive funding for a new pedestrian infrastructure on the Marion Berry Parkway overpass.

During Thursday’s city council meeting, Mayor Harold Copenhaver said the city will receive a $500,000 grant from the Transportation Alternative Program grant.

The city of Jonesboro submitted an application for funding in May.

Copenhaver said the grant will help improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.

“The final design and specifics for the projects are being finalized, when complete, pedestrians will have access to a protected well-lit pathway between the campus of Arkansas State University and Downtown Jonesboro,” Mayor Copenhaver said.

Mayor Copenhaver also said that construction is anticipated to begin in 2025.
