SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – The city of Sherman has officially surpassed $600 million in infrastructure spending.

Sherman City Council recently approved $82 million in new infrastructure debt bringing the total price tag for projects to about $630 million.

City of Sherman Spokesperson, Nate Strauch said the projects are to prepare the city for growth being spurred by Texas Instruments and Global Wafers.

Strauch said the majority of the money will go toward the $300 million industrial wastewater treatment facility.

“Our industrial wastewater plant is going to be kind of completely different in the way that it treats water compared to our conventional plant, which treats sewage for the rest of the city because of some of the chemicals that are used in these production processes,” Strauch said.

Several other water-related projects are also in the works.

“The North Texas Municipal Water District is working on a line right now,” Strauch said, “An 84-inch line that will sit next to the 72-inch line that comes out of the lake.”

Upgrades at the Sherman Water Plant are nearing completion.

“Then the 11-mile pipeline, which runs from our water plant all the way down to Progress Park toward where these projects are going is another massive project that’s getting close to completion,” Strauch said.

While Sherman’s water use will increase between new residents and industries, Strauch said th city is confident about its water supply.

“We have a lot of water rights at Lake Texoma that were purchased years and years and decades ago so that the city would have a reserve that we’re kind of now tapping into,” Strauch said.

The city has started discussing how to get more water rights for the future.

“That will kind of be the next phase of this is we’ve got the infrastructure in the ground, now we need to go make sure that we have enough water for the next phase,” Strauch said.

Texas Instruments recently began using water to test its systems before beginning production in early 2025.

Global Wafers is also expected to be complete in 2025.

“The city really is transitioning from a period of planning and really kind of making sure we had everything where it needed to be into the next phase, which is really seeing the fruits of all these projects come to fruition,” Strauch said.

Marking the beginning of a new, and exciting era for Sherman.
