Charlotte M. Jakiel, 83, of Dunkirk passed away on December 18, 2023, at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital. She was born on May 15, 1940, in Buffalo to the late Willard and Dorothy (Girrens) Jensen.

Charlotte worked as a clerk for the NYS Department of Labor in Dunkirk for many years. Additionally, she actively participated in various roles within her community. Charlotte served as the President of the PTA in North Collins and was a Junior Miss Chaperone in Fredonia. Moreover, she took pride in being the President of the Jayne C’s in both Fredonia and North Collins.

Her commitment to her faith led her to contribute significantly to St. John The Baptist Episcopal Church throughout her life. She held multiple positions within the church, including President of the Church Prayer Group, Treasurer, Vestry member, and Warden. Charlotte’s unwavering faith and dedication were evident through her selfless service to others.

Charlotte graduated from Eden High School with a thirst for knowledge that continued throughout her life. She was an avid reader with a particular love for solving crossword puzzles from the New York Times – always completing them confidently with a pen! Her sharp wit and intelligence shone through as she engaged in lively conversations and showcased her vast knowledge.

In her free time, Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed watching Jeopardy!, where she put her extensive trivia knowledge to good use. Her competitive spirit made each episode an exciting event for those lucky enough to join her.

Charlotte was a fantastic cook and baker. Her infectious laugh filled every room she entered while she entertained her loved ones with quick-witted jokes. She was also an avid New York Yankees fan.

Charlotte had a unique ability to make everyone around her feel like family. Her open heart and listening ear provided comfort and solace to those seeking advice or simply in need of a friend. She was a true people person, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer support, or share her wisdom. Charlotte’s unconditional love brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Last of all, Charlotte was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

Charlotte M. Jakiel is survived by her children: Catherine (Douglas) Ramsey, Barbara Jakiel, Mark (Barb) Jakiel, Bruce (Karen) Jakiel, Richard (Sharon) Jakiel; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Dorothy Jensen, and her brother Jerome Jensen.

A Visitation will be held on June 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Memorial Service to celebrate Charlotte’s life will take place on June 14, 2024, starting at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Dunkirk.

Flowers gratefully declined, contributions can be donated in Charlotte Jakiel’s name to The Westfield Stray Cat Rescue or the Dunkirk Public Library.
