Central Minnesota Cities Receive Over $265 Million for Water Infrastructure Upgrades

(KNSI) – St. Cloud and other central Minnesota cities will receive a cut of more than $265 million for water infrastructure projects.

The loans and grants will support 27 projects, including St. Cloud’s plans to replace a major force main from a lift station to the wastewater treatment plant. The money will also cover the design costs to refurbish the anaerobic digesters.

Annandale will receive $647,864 to repair its 300,000-gallon water tower, and Atwater will receive $7.85 million to replace its sewer and water system on the north side of town.

The money comes from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority. “Funding from the MPFA positively affects our communities, and it will help them grow and develop for years to come,” said Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Matt Varilek, the chair of the MPFA. “Keeping our water clean, drinkable and accessible will always be a top priority as we work to help communities flourish.”

The funds help communities replace aging wastewater and drinking water infrastructure to comply with the federal Clean and Safe Drinking Water Act.
