Cathy Elaine Hainsey, 73, Altoona, passed away Monday at home with her husband by her side. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Katherine J. (Hughes) Brubaker.

On March 30, 1976, at Fifth Street Methodist Church in Altoona, she was united in marriage to Rick Hainsey.

Along with her husband of 48 years, she is survived by a son, Jarret Hainsey, married to Alison of Altoona; stepchildren, Rickie Hainsey Jr., married to Bethany of Altoona and Lisa Thompson, married to the late Tim Thompson of Hollidaysburg; a grandson, Alexander Hainsey; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her mother, she was preceded in death by siblings: Joe Brubaker, “Sis” Becker and Connie Leonard.

Cathy was a graduate of Altoona Area High School Class of 1968.

After high school at the age of 17, she began a career in the healthcare field. Over the years, she worked in various offices, hospitals and care centers. She started off working as an aide at the Altoona Hospital in the maternity department. She then went to work in an OB-GYN office and worked as an LPN at James E. VanZant VA Medical Center. She then became an RN and worked at HealthSouth, where she was referred to as “The Queen of Pain” by Dr. Khalouf and became the director of pain management. She then went on to become the occupational health director at the Altoona Hospital. She finished her career as a head nurse at Valley View in Altoona, until her retirement in 2008.

Cathy was of the Protestant Faith.

She enjoyed reading, going to the beach and to movies with her husband. Halloween was her favorite holiday and she always enjoyed and looked forward to decorating her home at that time of the year.

She was a fighter by spirit and loved life. Cathy was so well loved by many and had lasting friendships from each place she went.

Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, with Pastor Tim Bartholomew officiating.
