HEBRON, Ky. (WXIX) – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a car was used to break into a pawn shop.
Jon Greene, the owner of Goodie’s Pawn Shop in Hebron, says he thinks it was teenagers who stole guns from his store around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
“They stole a car and drove it through the front of my building,” Greene explained.
There were several people in the vehicle, Greene says, but only a couple of them were able to make it inside because the vehicle was wedged in the door.
The guns were being held in a display case that is protected. That, however, did not deter the thieves.
“They’re very hard to break,” Greene says of the display cases. “They were trying to break them with their hands. They were trying to get into them, and they weren’t able to. One of the guys that came in did have a firearm, pulled it out and shot through my display cases in order to get to the guns.”
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office was at the shop within four minutes, according to Greene.
By the time they arrived, the pawn shop owner said the thieves were gone. Greene says they were seen getting into another vehicle and fleeing the scene.
“I think people should be held accountable for their actions,” Greene says. “We’re in a crazy world right now, I understand, but this type of thing has been happening too much.”
Greene says this isn’t the first time Goodie’s Pawn Shop has been targeted.
Last time it happened he says additional security measures were put in place.
“We’re not shutting down,” Greene stated. “We’re not going to let these people bully us or mess with us. I don’t care. Now, I am going to put up more security. I am going to put more up. I am going to make it to where these cars can’t get in here and I have accepted it, and I will just have to keep upgrading and whatever they bring me. I’ll fix it.”
The pawn shop is closed while repairs are being made.
It is unclear if the robbery at Goodie’s Pawn Shop is connected with similar crimes in the Northern Kentucky area.
The ATF says they are assisting local authorities, but because it is an active investigation, no information can be released at this time.
