Cancun shopping mall evacuated after report of fire – Riviera Maya News

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun shopping mall was evacuated Monday after the report of a fire. Cancun firemen arrived to black smoke emanating from between buildings of Plaza Outlet de Cancún and a Cinemex movie theatre Monday afternoon.

It was around 3:00 p.m. that they were requested at the mall after smoke was seen coming from between the two buildings. Police and emergency services arrived to evacuate the mall of staff and shoppers as well as the adjacent movie theatre before closing the area off to the public.

At least one ambulance was seen on site while firemen worked to extinguish the fire.

According to available information, the black smoke was due to a burned out transformer. Civil Protection and Cancun firemen remain at the scene to determine an exact cause of the fire.
