Forecasts for Mexico’s natural gas demand suggest imports should continue to grow in 2025, according to experts.
Given this growth, consultancy Elevation Ideas’ David Rosales raised the questions: “Which new projects will be announced, when will they come into operation, and which pipelines will be available to meet the demand of new power plants?”
A blackout in May 2024 that impacted 21 of Mexico’s 32 states highlighted the need to bolster energy infrastructure amid increasing strain on the power grid. Mexico’s electric grid is heavily reliant on natural gas, which accounts for about 60% of generation on any given day.
