As spring 2024 begins its transformation into summer in South County, homeowners and businesses are banging nails in projects ranging from spruce-ups and minor improvements to large-scale renovations and gut-to-the-studs for rebuilding.
It’s all part of both maintenance and continuous improvements to homes and properties whose values continue to rise in the non-stop price-rising real estate market. It brings value to the area and creates jobs for those in construction and renovation.
Dave Whitney, vice president and general manager of Davitt Design Build, Inc., in West Kingston, offered his perspective on trends and the state of restorations, refurbishments, reconstructions, repairs, renovations and remodeling in South County.
- Spring is a time for re-modeling and some additional construction. How do you see it this year compared to the last two years?
Demand for renovations and new construction in the coastal, luxury market has been consistent over the past several years. The first few months of 2024 has been strong with many clients preparing for renovations after the summer season. We have five major projects starting September 1st contracted already. Many have purchased homes in the past several years post-pandemic and are ready to transform the property into their own space whether that a complete tear-down rebuild or a renovation. An in-flow of out-of-state buyers coupled with low inventory has driven buyers to properties which fit their desired location but require work to fit their long-term goals.
