Brooke County Commission outlines major infrastructure projects for 2025

Must read

Commissioners in Brooke County are gearing up for a significant year of infrastructure development, with several projects set to advance in 2025.

Among the key initiatives is the ongoing effort to replace the Market Street Bridge, a project that has already seen preliminary steps toward realization.

“We are looking very optimistically at the future for 2025. We have a lot of big projects underway,” Commissioner A.J. Thomas said.

Thomas highlighted the collaboration with the Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission, the Department of Highways, and federal partners, which has committed $87.5 million in funding for the bridge replacement.

While the bridge project will not be completed or break ground this year, 2025 is seen as a pivotal year for laying the groundwork for future development.

“We have to make sure we keep on DOH, make sure that we have the support of the incoming governor,” Thomas said. “It’s very important for the city of Follansbee, for Weirton, and across the river in Steubenville. So we have to make sure that gets done and stays on track. That’s a long-term project.”

The commission also discussed board appointments and responsibilities for 2025 during their recent meeting.
