WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A busy Black Friday kicked off the holiday season.
Shopping on Black Friday is a tradition for many people. For some, it is a continuation of Thanksgiving and extra family time.
“It started a long time ago and I [keep] the tradition going to just have fun. Even though it seems crazy and everything, we just enjoy the time together,” said Mary Rao, a shopper.
With rising popularity in shopping online, there is still something that drives people to go inside the stores during the holidays.
“I like shopping in person, getting to see how things look in real life, try them on. I think it’s easier to shop and find things that you like,” said Zoe Kindt.
Some determined shoppers waited in line to be the first through the door. Most had a plan in mind.
“I know where the sales are. So, I’m going to Macy’s first, and then I need to go to Build-A-Bear,” said Marcia Delbiondo.
Westfarms Mall anticipated a rise in retail shopping by 3%.
“We see some of the same shopping groups year over year that have marked shirts on or matching pajamas. It is a tradition, families are together,” said Amanda Sirica, Westfarms spokesperson.
Many of the mall’s Black Friday deals are continuing through the weekend and the holiday shopping season.
