Black Business Tour highlights local shops ahead of Small Business Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Small Business Saturday is a week away, but some people started shopping early as part of Wichita’s Black Business Tour.

The event started at noon with a brunch before attendees hopped on shuttles to visit the local businesses, getting stamps on a special passport along the way.

Organizer Tasha Hayes said the goal of the event is to promote local and minority-owned businesses because without it, many will fail.

“We found that 90% of Black-owned businesses do not make it to their fifth-year anniversary due to the lack of visibility and resources,” said Hayes. “So, what better way to kick off the holiday season, Small Business Saturday, than by ensuring that Wichitans know about these businesses and the innovative and creative creators here in Wichita.”

Attendees on Saturday’s tour stopped at nine black-owned businesses across downtown Wichita.
