Birmingham city council approves $2.6M bid for amphitheater infrastructure upgrades

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The City of Birmingham is advancing its efforts to complete the new amphitheater, as the city council has approved additional funding for infrastructure improvements at the site.

Tuesday. the council accepting the lump sum bid of South Dade Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Inc, with the price tag of $2,594,461.17.

The clock is ticking on the project, with Country music star Thomas Rhett is scheduled to perform at the amphitheater on June 27.

The amphitheater’s $30 million funding has been supplemented by $20 million from multiple agencies. In October, a spokesperson for the amphitheater said the project was on target.

SDAC was the lowest bidder for infrastructure improvements at 25th street north, also known as the star development.

Birmingham City Council President Darrell O’Quinn says despite the company’s name citing AC and refrigeration, they will be improving side-walks and right-of-ways.
