Big Lots reverses course on Grafton store

Must read

GRAFTON — The proposed plans for another big development in the Grafton shopping center located off of Wisconsin Avenue and Falls Road have since fallen through.

According to real estate company CBRE, the roughly 39,000-square-foot vacant space formerly occupied by Pick ‘n Save is up for lease and will no longer house a Big Lots store. It was set to open in August of last year and would’ve been situated next to Harbor Freight Tools, which fills the rest of the total 56,000 square foot building.

“We are very disappointed that Big Lots will not be able to commit to being part of the Grafton retail community in the south business district,” Village President Dan Delorit said. “The village was just as surprised as everyone else when the lease signs were posted on the building. However, we are confident with the growth in the south business district and the commercial interest in Grafton as a whole, (that) we will see another quality business move into that space.”

The News Graphic also reached out to CBRE for comment but did not receive a response by the press deadline.

Big Lots was once located in the Twin City Plaza, but due to a nationwide corporate restructuring, it closed in late 2005, according to Village officials.

The Ohio-based discount retailer operates more than 1,400 stores in 47 states, carrying an assortment of products in categories such as food, consumables, furniture/ home décor, seasonal, electronics and accessories, according to its website.
