Union Pacific Railroad locomotive No. 4014 spews smoke and steam as it departs from Boone at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Called the Big Boy, the steam-powered behemoth traveled through Iowa on the railroad’s Heartland Tour. The locomotive was built in 1941. According to Union Pacific, it is the largest operating steam locomotive in the country. It lives up to the Big Boy name, weighing in at about 1.2 million pounds.
