BAY MILLS — The Bay Mills Indian Community was recently awarded $2.5 million in grant funding to improve wastewater infrastructure.
The grant comes from the Secretary of Commerce Department Economic Development Administration and is intended to support economic development in the entire Brimley region.
Officials said this grant will help Bay Mills expand the capacity of the existing wastewater treatment programs and improve their functionality. The grant was awarded with the expectation that the expansion will create 40 jobs and allow the retention of 400 more.

The grant is matched by $4.7 million in local funds and is expected to generate around $11 million in private investments.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America Agenda is committed to supporting Tribal Nations’ work to build strong, diversified economies,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in a press release. “This EDA investment will create jobs and attract new business investment at the Bay Mills Indian Community Reservation, ensuring that the Tribe strengthens its economic resilience.”
