BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Kellogg is bringing a major change to its hometown of Battle Creek.
The cereal manufacturer is planning to boost their production at their West Michigan facility.
Infrastructural changes are coming to the facility, although Kellogg has not yet said what that could entail.
The move is expected to boost production in Battle Creek, at the expense of facilities in Omaha, Nebr., and Memphis, Tenn.
In December of last year, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation approved a 15-year renaissance zone for W.K. Kellogg, keeping hundreds of jobs in Battle Creek.
Earlier this week, Kellogg announced the infrastructural investment plans. These plans are also expected to take place in Belleville, Ont., and Lancaster, Pa.
Kellogg was founded in Battle Creek in 1906.
Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke told News Channel 3 he is excited about what the prospect of a boost in productivity could mean for the area.
He said it could bring jobs and prosperity to Battle Creek.
“This is good news for Battle Creek; it’s good news for southwest Michigan, it’s good news for the state of Michigan, and we’re very happy to provide it,” Behnke said.
He is also appreciative of Kellogg investing in the city where it started.
“You’ve got an $8 billion foundation in Battle Creek,” Behnke said. “Any town would want to have that foundation. So, we say, ‘Thank you,’ and we look forward to working with both the foundation and the W.K. Kellogg cereal company.”
News Channel 3 will continue to provide more updates to this story as they are released.
