Barbara A. Eberly

Barbara A. Eberly, 93, of Portland, New York, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on September 16, 2024.

Barbara was born January 31, 1931, in Dunkirk, New York, a daughter of Roy J. Thompson and Edith (Willson) Thompson.

Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Dunkirk High School and from there enlisted in the U.S. Army where she met her husband, Theodore. Barbara was also employed for several years with the Becker Insurance Company in Brocton, New York, and was a self-employed housekeeper for many years. In her spare time Barbara enjoyed reading, writing, and was in charge of the mission’s program at her church, Portland Congregational, for many years. She also spent many years writing to a pen pal fostering a friendship.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Theodore G. Eberly, her son Jeffery T. Eberly, her grandson John T. McCorriston, her brother Lawrence R. Thompson, her brother-in-law Bronislaus T. Skubis, and her sister-in-law Saundra Funk.

Barbara is survived by her four daughters, Donna Geniesse of Erie, PA, Debra McCorriston of Great Falls, MT, Marsha Langworthy (William) of Panama, NY, and Gail Lakeberg of Beaverton, OR. Barbara is also survived by her granddaughters Nicole Geniesse Kahlmorgan (Chris) of Plano, TX, Michelle Langworthy Clark (Kyle) of Beaverton, OR, and Jacqueline Lakeberg of Beaverton, OR, and her grandsons William Langworthy (Lynsey) of Las Vegas, NV, Richard Geniesse (Erica) of Estacada, OR, Steven Geniesse of Erie, PA, Adam Lakeberg {Danielle) of Anthem, AZ, and Zachary Lakeberg of Hillsboro, OR. She is also survived by her great grandchildren John Lakeberg, Zoe Clark, Theodore Lakeberg, and Niko Clark. In addition, Barbara is also survived by her sister Ruth J. Skubis of Dunkirk, New York, brother-in¯law H.T. Kirkwood and his wife Jutta of Chambersburg, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews

A funeral service will be held on September 18, 2024, at 1PM at the Portland Congregational Church, Portland, New York, of which Barbara was a long time active member. A time to share memories will be from 12 noon until the start of the service at the church.

Interment will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Congregational Church, Portland, NY.
