Jonesville Bakery has operated in downtown Jonesville for over 100 years, and Laura and Virgil Udzik have been continuing this tradition for nearly 18 years.

The Udziks took over the bakery in 2007. Virgil, who had worked as a baker for 12 years, wanted to own his own business. They make a variety of treats, including doughnuts, cookies, muffins, scones and cinnamon rolls.

What’s that? A new bank has opened in Jackson

A new bank has opened its doors in Jackson and is ready to serve clients.

Chelsea State Bank recently expanded to the Jackson area, with its new Jackson Banking Center at 611 N. Wisner St. The bank has several clients in Jackson, and expanding west will allow it to better serve them, President and CEO Joanne Rau said.

Kitchen fire temporarily closes Oak Tree Lounge in Jackson

A popular Jackson restaurant will temporarily close due to a kitchen fire that broke out Friday.

The Jackson Fire Department responded to the fire at Oak Tree Lounge, 617 Oak St., just before noon Friday, Jan. 24. Flames were spotted inside the kitchen near the fryers and coming out of the vent system, fire department Capt. Ryan Hendricks said.

Fire crews opened the roof and ceiling of the restaurant and were then able to extinguish it in roughly 20 minutes, he said.

Brian Surgener opened Jackson Coffee Co. in an old downtown Jackson hardware store in 2006. While the coffee, lattes and frappes are staples, matcha has grown in popularity over the years, Manager Alyssa Burchett said.

Comerica Bank to close locations in three Michigan counties

Some Michigan residents may have to find a new option for their banking needs as Comerica Bank closes locations in Washtenaw, Jackson and Lenawee counties.

Comerica Bank is closing branches in Saline, Manchester, Grass Lake, Clinton and Brooklyn on April 24, said Matt Barnhart, vice president of corporate communications for Comerica Bank’s Michigan market.

Antique mall, art vendors moving into Commercial Exchange Building in Jackson

The Commercial Exchange Building has welcomed many new tenants and will soon welcome an antique mall.

These businesses range from 120 to 10,000 square feet and include nail salons, a lash technician, a chiropractor and art studios featuring a music teacher, pottery and recycled industrial material, owner Cameron Meininger said.
