COURTENAY, B.C. – The Government of British Columbia is putting almost $8 million in funding towards child care spaces in two schools in School District 71 in Courtenay, B.C.
The investment will go towards 75 new spaces in both Adren and Glacier View elementary schools, including 24 spaces for infant-toddlers, 32 spaces for kids aged three to five and 94 new spaces for school-age care on school grounds, a release said.
In order to fast track the creation of child care spaces on school grounds, B.C. developed a funding pathway for B.C. school districts interested in creating or expanding access to licensed child care in schools, the release said, and applications are still being accepted for the 2024-25 ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund.
