With a stellar junior season, Fredonia’s Ashton Putney put himself in select company this spring.
As Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 coaches announced their all-star team recently, it was revealed that Putney was honored with both the Al Stuhlmiller Player of the Year as well as the Roger K. Moore Pitcher of the Year.
On the mound, the right-hander won six games and pitched six complete games, threw three shutouts and saved two games with 97 strikeouts and 15 walks while pitching to a 1.62 earned run average. At the plate, he hit .471 out of the leadoff spot with seven doubles and three triples, while scoring 34 runs and driving in 16 for the Hillbillies. He was also 14 for 14 in stolen-base attempts.
Putney was joined on the First Team by three teammates: junior catcher Andrew Cowan, sophomore outfielder Colin Luce and senior infielder/pitcher Owen Rush. Fredonia’s Tim Cowan was also named the league’s Coach of the Year.
